We are here for the students

Kingswood Primary has flexible teaching spaces allowing us to design a curriculum that meets the needs of the 3rd millennium learners.

Principal’s Message

Welcome to the Kingswood learning community. I have been a member of the leadership team of Kingswood Primary School for the past 12 years. I feel privileged to be the Principal of this school because of the high levels of academic achievement, outstanding teachers and the excellent reputation we have within the community, as the number one school of choice in the Dingley Village area.

The school’s educational philosophy of laying the ‘Foundations for Success’ and making a ‘Positive Difference’ to the lives of every student forms the basis of the teaching and learning that takes place at Kingswood. We believe that it is important to discover the individual talents of each child and to place students in an environment where they want to learn. We nurture curiosity and the spirit of inquiry within our students. We know that curiosity drives the impulse to learn.

As well as offering the basics of Literacy, Numeracy and Inquiry, the school has specialist classes in Physical Education, Japanese, Performing Arts, Visual Arts, Digital Technologies, Engineering, and Science. Students have opportunities to participate in extracurricular programs, including coding club, learning to play instruments, choir, drama, dance, karate, and sporting clinics (hockey, football, soccer, tennis, golf and many more). Adventure camps, surfing, skiing and tours to Canberra and Japan complement the smorgasbord of programs offered at the school.

Kingswood is an internationally accredited Habits of Mind School. Habits of Mind are dispositions skill-fully and mindfully employed by intelligent people when confronted with challenges. Kingswood implements ‘Visible Thinking’ protocols from the Harvard Graduate School of Education. Habits of Mind and Visible Thinking are strategies that assist students to problem solve, becoming more intelligent and successful students and adults in later years. As a leader in Thinking and STEAM, the school hosts an annual Conference for educators in the state.

The Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Program for students in Years 2 to 6 is well embedded into the school. The aim of this program is to introduce children to the pleasures of preparing, cooking and eating a variety of foods they have grown and harvested themselves here at Kingswood in the gardens.

I am a firm believer in making financial investments from our school fund towards the students of today. Projects for the future include upgrading the quadrangle play area and the hall toilets.

Kingswood is a leader in Information and Communications Technology (ICT). At Kingswood, we have both PC’s and Macbook computers; it is important to us that students experience both platforms before they leave primary school. We have a very successful 1:1 iPad/Chromebook/Macbook program for students in Years 3-6.

We are proud that our Year 5 & 6 students were national finalists of Screen It, Australia’s largest moving image competition in 2016 and runner up in 2017.

Kingswood Primary School is part of a very dynamic community and this culture assist us to educate your child. We encourage you to become involved in the school as research indicates that when parents participate and engage with their child’s schooling the long term outcomes improve.

All the very best, and welcome to the Kingswood community.
