A Message from Rosemary Cosentino

Message from the Principal

Welcome to the Kingswood learning community. I have been the Principal of Kingswood Primary School for 14 years. I feel privileged to be the Principal of this school because of the high levels of academic achievement, outstanding teachers and the excellent reputation we have within the community. Kingswood is the number one school of choice in the Dingley Village area.

The school’s educational philosophy laying the ‘Foundations for Success’ and making a ‘Positive Difference’ to the lives of every student, forms the basis of the teaching and learning that takes place at Kingswood. We believe that it is important to discover the individual talents of each child and to put students in an environment where they want to learn. We nurture curiosity and the spirit of inquiry within our students. We know that curiosity drives the impulse to learn.

As well as offering the basics of Literacy, Numeracy and Inquiry, the school has specialist classes in Physical Education, Japanese, Performing Arts, Visual Arts, Robotics & Coding, Engineering, and Science. Students have opportunities to participate in extracurricular programs, including computing, coding club, instrumental music, choir, drama, dance, karate, and sporting clinics (hockey, football, soccer, tennis & golf). Adventure camps, surfing, skiing and tours to Canberra and Japan complement the smorgasbord of programs offered at the school.

Kingswood is an internationally accredited Habits of Mind School. Habits of Mind are dispositions skillfully and mindfully employed by intelligent people when confronted with challenges. Kingswood implements ‘Visible Thinking’ protocols from the Harvard Graduate School of Education. Habits of Mind and Visible Thinking are strategies that assist students to problem solve, becoming more intelligent and successful students and adults in later years. As a leader in Thinking, the school hosts an annual Thinking Conference for educators in the state.

I am a firm believer in spending school money for our students of today. Projects for next year include renovating student toilet block (Building Fund) and designing and installing new playground equipment for senior students.

Kingswood is a leader in Information and Communications Technology (ICT). At Kingswood, we have both PCs and Mac computers; it is important to us that students experience both platforms before they leave primary school. We have a very successful 1:1 iPad program for students in Years 3-6. As a leader in ICT, Kingswood hosts a yearly conference for teachers in the Victorian state from government, independent and catholic schools. We are proud to announce that our Year 5 & 6 students were national winners of Screen It, Australia’s largest moving image competition, run by the Australian Centre for the Moving Image.

As you can see, Kingswood Primary School is a very happening place and a great school in which to educate your child. We encourage you to become involved in the school – research indicates that parent participation and engagement with their child’s school, leads to better student learning outcomes.
